AV-Comparatives is an independent cybersecurity testing organisation based in Innsbruck, Austria. It systematically tests and certifies security software, including endpoint protection, threat detection, mobile security, enterprise EDR and XDR, firewalls, consumer security suites, and IoT and operational technology (OT) security solutions for PC, Mac, and Android platforms. Testing uses a large real-world malware collection and automated test procedures developed with the University of Innsbruck. Test results are published freely for consumers, media, enterprises, and research institutions. The organisation was founded as a student research project in 1999 by Andreas Clementi and Peter Stelzhammer, and the current leadership includes Co-CEO Jan Brilke and CTO Philippe Rödlach. It also runs research projects such as SALSA on living safety and security cases for cyber-physical systems.
