Kaasmerk Matec is a supplier of cheesemarks, the casein-based identification plates applied to cheese during production to certify origin, protect recipes and enable traceability. The company was formed through the 2009 combination of Het Kaasmerk in Leiden, the Netherlands, which has produced cheesemarks since 1920, and Matec, a family company founded in 1989 in France that serves protected designation of origin (PDO) consortia and producers. Its marks are made from 100% casein or casein mixed with glycerol, are food-grade, and are produced in-house at sites in Leiden and Arbent, with laboratories in Leiden and Arinthod used to develop new shapes, compositions and colours. Services include design and development of marks for individual producers, and software and systems that support traceability and quality control. The company says it works with farms, cheesemakers and affineurs of all sizes, and serves clients through distributors in several countries.
