Agate Sensors Oy is a Finnish company based in Espoo, founded in 2024 to commercialise a decade of photonics and nanofabrication research from Aalto University. It develops a solid-state, chip-scale, software-defined hyperspectral sensor designed for mass manufacturing. The technology targets defence applications including counter-UAS systems, smart weapon sights, one-way drones, detection of concealed threats, and material-aware classification with extended classification range and sub-pixel detection. The company also addresses autonomous systems and robotics, advanced imaging for smartphones and cameras, wearable health sensing, automotive, medical and industrial quality control. Agate Sensors has won a Swedish Defence Agency innovation contract and publishes a defence whitepaper.
