Founded in 2007, IRnova is a defense component supplier based in Kista, Sweden working in optronics, space, counter-uas & air defense.
IRnova is a Swedish manufacturer of cooled infrared detectors based in Kista, near Stockholm. The company develops and produces T2SL (Type-II superlattice) and QWIP (quantum well infrared photodetector) focal plane arrays covering the shortwave, midwave, longwave and very longwave infrared spectrum. Its detectors serve defence, space, security and industrial applications, including ISR and targeting airborne gimbals, handheld and battery-powered systems, optical gas imaging, drone detection and earth observation. R&D into cooled infrared detectors began in Sweden in 1986, and IRnova was spun off from a governmental research institute in 2007. The company operates an in-house cleanroom of about 1,300 m2 and states it is Europe's only in-house T2SL producer. It also offers manufacturing, hybridization and integration of detectors, plus evaluation kits. IRnova describes itself as independent and privately owned, and has received European Space Agency contracts for T2SL space detectors.
