Thistle Precision is a UK-based SME that designs and manufactures custom encoders, resolvers, potentiometers, motors and related position and motion sensing components for mission-critical land, naval, subsurface and air applications, as well as industrial markets. Formed by former Ferranti engineers in 1992 and based near Edinburgh, the company supplies turret position and elevation encoders for armoured vehicles, navigation sensors for towed artillery and wheeled and tracked vehicles, marine encoders for naval surface vessels and submarines, and specialist fuel subsystem components for the Hawk jet trainer. It also offers reverse engineering and build-to-print services to maintain legacy programmes. The company has been part of the Quantic and Arcline group, and it was renamed from Quantic Thistle to Thistle Precision. Its work includes a Challenger 3 subcontract awarded by RBSL. Its quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015.
