Uzina Mecanica Plopeni, formed in 1937 from the Margineanca works under a contract between the Romanian state and RIMMA, has produced military equipment since its founding. It began ammunition production in 1941 and became a subsidiary of S.N. ROMARM S.A. in 1998, then of C.N. ROMARM S.A. after the 2000 merger. Since 2001 it has operated as S.C. Uzina Mecanica Plopeni S.A., a subsidiary of C.N. ROMARM S.A. The company manufactures artillery, tank, anti-aircraft, aircraft and naval cannon ammunition, and also makes high-complexity civilian products. Its services include ammunition design, loading and assembly, pyrotechnic element fitting, CNC and conventional machining, heat treatment, surface coating, ballistic parameter testing, dynamic testing of materials and structures, and destruction of explosive materials. The company operates a proving ground and has a 5-axis CNC machining centre.
