A HELY is a Budapest-based foundation, established in 1998 as Magadért Drogmentességet Védő Alapítvány, that supports people with drug and behavioural addictions and their relatives. It runs self-help and professionally led groups for addicts, relatives and people seeking personal change, offers individual, couple and family consultations, a six-month diversion programme, thematic groups, lectures and social activities, and provides a practical training placement for students in helping professions. Groups are open to people who accept the foundation's rules, including voluntary participation and full abstinence from drugs and alcohol during group participation. The foundation is funded partly by client contributions, donations and the 1% tax designation, and it operates a small lending library. Its founders worked with psychiatrist Dr. Imre Csernus.
