Amnesty for Women e.V. is a non-profit counselling centre and international meeting point for women in Hamburg, founded in 1986 as a registered association. It offers social and legal counselling, psychosocial support, German and other language courses, and community activities, with the aim of easing the living and working conditions of migrant women and women affected by violence. Its work is based on self-help: it develops solutions together with the women who seek advice. As a human rights organisation, it raises public awareness of and works against isolation, discrimination, repression and violence faced by women because of their gender and migrant status. Advocacy includes calling for safe emergency shelters for homeless women regardless of residence status. Counselling is offered in German, English and Spanish.
