Utz Che is a Guatemalan national network and civil association of indigenous and peasant community organisations working on community forestry and the sustainable management of natural resources, mainly forests, forest plantations and water sources. The network supports its member organisations through capacity building in sustainable natural resource management, community forestry, and local, national and global advocacy. It also runs programmes on agroecology, ecotourism, livelihoods, community training and the defence of indigenous territorial rights. Member organisations include indigenous communities, cooperatives and peasant associations from many Maya and other peoples. The network is based in Palín, Escuintla, and operates in several regions of Guatemala, including the North-East, South and West. It accepts donations, volunteers and interns, and runs a fund to help the Nueva Trinidad indigenous community relocate to a safe territory.
