The Austrian Spine Society (Österreichische Gesellschaft für Wirbelsäulenchirurgie, spine.at) is a non-profit association founded in Vienna in 1998 by spine surgeons and related specialists. It brings together orthopaedic, neurosurgical, trauma, radiology and allied clinicians and scientists working on spinal conditions in Austria. Its stated aims are to exchange current knowledge, promote training and research in spine surgery, maintain international contacts, coordinate the medical disciplines involved, and organise regular events such as an annual expert symposium in Vienna. It awards travel grants, research funding and prizes, mainly to members, and publishes general patient information on back pain, spinal fractures, osteoporosis and treatment options, stating that this does not replace medical consultation.
