About
Founded in 1990, Autonómia Alapítvány is a grant-making foundation based in Budapest, Hungary working on community development, democracy & civil society, employment & skills +7 more.
Autonómia Alapítvány is a Hungarian foundation established in 1990 as one of the first independent foundations after the change of regime. It promotes Roma integration and civil society development in Hungary and the wider region. It supports civil initiatives in which people mobilise local resources, partners with Roma and non-Roma civil organisations, and runs grant-giving and direct development programmes for marginalised people. Its work covers employment and skills for Roma and poor residents, education and youth mentoring, community development in segregated areas, housing, and financial literacy for low-income households. It also carries out training, research and policy work, and facilitates government and EU programmes that target labour market conditions for Roma and poor people. The foundation's stated mission is to support a just society whose members actively shape their own fate and that of their communities. It operates independently of government and publishes its lessons learned for wider public use.
