About
AVP Ireland is a charity based in Rathfarnham, Dublin, Ireland working on peace & conflict, justice & legal aid.
AVP Ireland is a voluntary organisation and registered charity run by a community of trained volunteers inside and outside prisons. It runs Alternatives to Violence Project workshops in 11 Irish prisons for anyone wishing to build better relationships and resolve conflict non-violently. Workshops are experiential, using games, role play and group reflection to explore anger, violence, self-esteem and communication skills. Volunteers commit to at least three or four workshops a year and can progress to training as facilitators. The Irish programme was founded in the mid-1990s, starting in Mountjoy Prison, and is part of the international AVP movement, which began in the US prison system in the 1970s. AVP Ireland is based at Quaker House in Rathfarnham, Dublin.
