About

Bahnwelt Darmstadt-Kranichstein is a non-profit association based in Darmstadt, Germany working on heritage, education, children & youth.

Bahnwelt Darmstadt-Kranichstein is an umbrella organisation of several railway associations in Darmstadt. Its member association, Museumsbahn e. V., runs the Eisenbahnmuseum Darmstadt-Kranichstein, the largest railway museum in Hesse, in the former Kranichstein railway depot, with more than 200 historic vehicles. The volunteer-run museum preserves and restores historic rolling stock, operates special museum train trips on the public network, and runs the Feuriger Elias steam tram on Darmstadt's tram tracks together with ARGE HEAG. It also operates a tram museum on Marburger Straße. The Stiftung Bahnwelt Darmstadt-Kranichstein, a charitable trust, supports the long-term preservation of the collection, and the Freundes- und Förderkreis supports the museum's projects. Volunteers take part in restoration, building maintenance, archives, public relations and train operation duties. The organisation is based in Darmstadt, Germany.
