Barretstown Childrens Charity
Ballymore Eustace, County Kildare, Ireland
About
Founded in 1994, Barretstown Childrens Charity is a charity based in Ballymore Eustace, Ireland working on health, children & youth, mental health.
Barretstown is an Irish children's charity that provides free, medically endorsed residential camps and programmes for children and young people living with cancer and other serious illnesses, and for their families. Founded in 1994 on a 500-acre estate donated by the Irish Government, it was the first camp of its kind outside the USA and was established under the vision of Paul Newman. Its therapeutic recreation model combines occupational therapy, psychology, recreational therapy and adventure-based counselling, with the aim of helping children rebuild their lives through serious fun. The charity works from its base in Co Kildare, runs school and hospital outreach across Ireland, and is an independently financed and managed member of the SeriousFun Children's Network. Its services are provided at no cost to families, who receive accommodation, food and medical care. It is supported by donations, corporate partners, legacies and community fundraising, and relies on volunteers and ambassadors to raise awareness.
