BAUE is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the exploration and conservation of underwater regions. It operates mainly in Northern California and promotes continued diver education and safety through presentations, expert-led workshops, community outreach programmes and online educational resources. It also runs underwater photography sharing and short- and long-term projects, from single weekend events to ongoing research, in which divers document the underwater environment. Its diving philosophy, standards and procedures follow those taught through Global Underwater Explorers.
