Bergesenstiftelsen is a Norwegian allmennyttig (public-benefit) foundation based in Oslo, established in 1975. Its purpose is to fund public-benefit projects, particularly in cultural and humanitarian fields, with additional support for research and knowledge-sharing on climate, environment, sustainability and patient-oriented medical research. The foundation makes grants through three to four application rounds a year, submitted via an online portal, and pays out amounts ranging from about NOK 10,000 to several hundred thousand. Since 1975 it has reported awarding more than NOK 500 million to over 5,000 projects. It also awards the Bergesenprisen, its highest distinction, to individuals or institutions recognised for public-benefit work. The board makes all grant decisions. The foundation is national in scope and encourages applicants to combine its funding with other sources. Its administration has about three full-time equivalent staff.
