Boxgirls Berlin e.V. is a registered non-profit association in Berlin founded in 2005. It uses boxing, Muay Thai and kickboxing training, together with workshops and school projects, to strengthen girls, women and queer people, and to promote gender equality, anti-discrimination and social change in their neighbourhoods. The association grew out of Seitenwechsel e.V. and was founded within the MädchenStärken programme of the Deutsche Kinder- und Jugendstiftung. Its offerings include regular training for girls and women, separate queer groups for adults, teenagers and children aged 7 to 11, all-gender sessions, Kung Fu and Minimantis classes for children, and workshops on sexism, violence prevention, gender diversity and racism. Training takes place mainly at the Johann Trollmann Boxcamp in Bergmannstraße, Berlin. The association is a member of the Integration durch Sport programme of Landessportbund Berlin and is recognised as a charitable (gemeinnützig) association that issues donation receipts. Partner projects in Nairobi, Kenya and in the townships around Cape Town, South Africa, are run with the independent sister organisations Boxgirls Kenya and Boxgirls South Africa, which provide girls with boxing training, schooling support and workshops on health and violence prevention. Membership is open to all, with fees scaled to income and a free trial session.
