Budondo Intercultural Center is a non-profit organisation in rural Uganda, founded in 2012, that works with communities to improve access to and use of health services, household income and food security. It runs two community health centres, Suubi Health Centre in Luuka District and Shanti Health Centre in Luwero District, providing subsidised maternal, neonatal and child healthcare, immunisation, laboratory services and community outreach. Its Population, Health & Environment programme works with households through village health teams to build resilience, with the aim of creating model households that practise family planning, regenerative agriculture, sanitation and hygiene. A motorcycle loan scheme and farm-based social enterprise generate local income that covers the health centres' operational costs, so patients are not charged for salaries and supplies. The organisation plans to scale to 58 villages and to upgrade its health facility to a hospital.
