About

Founded in 1958, Bundesjugend is a non-profit association based in Bremen, Germany working on disability, children & youth, education.

The Bundesjugend is a national self-help association of and for young people with hearing impairments up to 35 years old, regardless of hearing status or communication method. It was founded in 1958 as a union of youth groups within the Deutscher Schwerhörigenbund and became an independent registered association in 1992. The association runs nationwide workshops, seminars, meetings and holiday camps, including summer camps and sailing and skiing trips, offering information as well as creative and sports activities. It advocates for inclusive participation in social life, supports exchange among self-help groups, promotes inclusion in mainstream schools and provides advice to families, schools and institutions. Its board and staff are largely hard of hearing themselves. The association is volunteer-led, with a paid office manager, and depends largely on sponsoring memberships and public funding to keep its office running. It is based in Bremen and operates across Germany.
