Children are placed by DIF, the Mexican social services agency, which holds legal custody. The home is funded by donations from supporters in the United States, with no government funding, and is sponsored by the Order of St. Augustine. Hogar Infantil, Inc is a California nonprofit corporation with a US tax-deductible status, governed by a board that includes Augustinians and lay members, and a Mexican nonprofit entity governs the home's day-to-day operations in partnership with DIF.
