The Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland (CBOI) is an all-island youth orchestra and charity founded in Dundalk in 1995 as a peace initiative following the 1994 ceasefires. It brings together young musicians from Ireland and Northern Ireland, performing symphonic Celtic music that blends orchestral playing with Irish and Ulster Scots traditions. Its flagship Peace Proms programme provides free music education to around 30,000 primary school children in about 700 schools each year, culminating in arena concerts across Ireland and Northern Ireland. The Count Us In programme offers free instrumental tuition, instruments on loan and ABRSM exam preparation to children and young people, particularly in the Border counties, as a feeder to the orchestra. The CBOI is registered as a charity in Ireland, the UK and the United States, and has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and the Lincoln Center, as well as for national commemorations.
