About

Founded in 1968, domicil Dortmund is a non-profit association based in Dortmund, Germany working on arts & culture, community development, children & youth.

domicil Dortmund e.V. is a non-profit association that runs domicil, a jazz and contemporary music venue in Dortmund, Germany. Founded in 1968 with the aim of giving jazz in Dortmund a permanent home, the association began with concerts in a cellar club on Leopoldstraße and moved in 2005 to a converted cinema in the Westfalenhaus on Hansastraße. Its programme includes around 250 to 320 events a year, covering concerts, sessions, workshops, festivals and exhibitions, with a focus on contemporary jazz, world music and avant-garde music. Volunteer members contribute roughly 5,000 working hours a year to the cultural programme, and the venue also runs a restaurant and bar and hosts private events. The association's operating company, domicil gGmbH, is a 100% subsidiary that runs the venue and gastronomy and is funded in part by the Dortmund Kulturbüro as a free cultural centre. The venue also supports young musicians through the domicil Förderpreis, school bands through SOUNDZZ, and family concerts for children.
