About

Founded in 1991, Društvo izgnancev Slovenije 1941-1945 is a non-profit association based in Ljubljana, Slovenia working on human rights, heritage.

The Društvo izgnancev Slovenije 1941-1945 (Association of Slovene Expellees 1941-1945) was founded on 9 June 1991 at Rajhenburg castle by about 8,000 Slovene expellees, forced labourers and refugees. Based in Ljubljana, it works to preserve the historical memory of the Nazi genocidal policy towards Slovenes during the Second World War and of their expulsion. It collects testimonies and documents, maintains memorial sites and museum collections, and organises exhibitions. It also advocates for the rights of surviving war-violence victims, including compensation claims, and supports members at home through volunteers. The association is organised into around 83 local organisations and is active in Slovenia and in international expellee networks.
