The Slovenian Charcoal Association is a voluntary, independent, non-profit association of charcoal burners from across Slovenia. Founded in 2018 at a constituent assembly held on Gorjanci, it works to present charcoal burning and promote charcoal produced by traditional methods in earth-covered kilns. Its aims include preserving the tradition of charcoal making and related natural and cultural heritage, connecting Slovenian charcoal burners to improve marketing of their product, and integrating the craft into rural tourism. The association organises annual national meetings of charcoal burners, kiln-lighting events and exhibitions, and has been a member of the European charcoal association since 2019. It also works with charcoal burners across Europe toward inscribing charcoal burning on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage. Membership is open to Slovenian citizens and legal entities, and the association is funded by membership fees, sponsors and donors.
