About

Founded in 1982, Elternverein für leukämie- und krebskranke Kinder Gießen is a non-profit association based in Aßlar-Berghausen, Germany working on health, medical research, children & youth +2 more.

The Elternverein für leukämie- und krebskranke Kinder Gießen e.V. is a parents' association founded in 1982 to support children and young people with leukaemia and cancer and their families, mainly at the children's cancer ward Peiper of the Universitätsklinikum Gießen in Hesse. It provides psychosocial support, a play room with staff, an ambulance nursing service that provides care at home, and quick, unbureaucratic help. The association also runs support groups for bereaved parents and for childhood cancer survivors. It is supported by the Giessener Elternstiftung für krebskranke Kinder Walter Lahme, founded in 1993, which funds applied paediatric cancer research and therapy studies in Gießen from the interest on its capital. Donations and legacies finance the work, and donations are tax-deductible. The association has nine employees and relies heavily on volunteers in its board and support roles.
