Empower Bolga is a small family foundation established in 2023 and based in Chrudim, Czech Republic. It works with a group of about 15 hand-weavers in Bolgatanga, Ghana, sells their handcrafted elephant grass bags in Europe, and reinvests the proceeds into weavers' livelihoods, their families' education and healthcare, and community projects such as a borehole and eye screenings. It also runs one-off fundraising campaigns, for example after floods in Rwanda in 2023, and supports individual students. The team includes founder Jiří Blažek, an ophthalmologist who has worked on eye-care missions in Kenya, Ghana and Rwanda.
