About
FAIR is a non-governmental organisation based in Oslo, Norway working on education, international development, environment & climate.
FAIR (Fair Allocation of Infotech Resources) is a non-profit organisation run by FAIR Danmark and FAIR Norge. It collects, refurbishes and redistributes used ICT equipment, with secure data erasure, to schools, universities and community projects, mainly in Malawi, to narrow the global digital divide and provide access to education and information technology. Companies and associations can donate end-of-life IT equipment, and volunteers help with collection, testing and preparation of equipment. FAIR also develops its own software for automated testing and data erasure, the Large-scale Computer Reuse Suite. The Danish branch has been closing its operations, with its final general meetings planned for the end of 2023. The organisation works with Mzuzu University and the University of Copenhagen on data science and ICT training in Malawi, and it began its Malawi work in 2011 with a pilot at four schools and one centre.
