About

Founded in 1992, Fairtrade Ireland is a non-governmental organisation based in Dublin, Ireland working on poverty & hunger, international development, human rights +1 more.

Fairtrade Ireland is a not-for-profit non-governmental organisation based in Dublin that promotes fair trading practices between Ireland and producers in developing countries. Established in 1992 and incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in 1994, it works mainly with businesses to license and promote the availability of Fairtrade certified products in Ireland, and runs public awareness and education work on the benefits of Fairtrade for farmers and workers in the Global South. It is a founder member of Fairtrade International, which sets the international Fairtrade standards, and works with FLO-Cert, which checks compliance with them. Its work is funded by licence fees paid by companies based on their Fairtrade product sales, and it does not raise funds from the public. Fairtrade premiums support producer communities, and the organisation reports growing Irish consumer spending on Fairtrade products over recent years.
