About

Founded in 2000, fmks is a non-profit association based in Kiel, Germany working on education, children & youth.

The fmks is a non-profit association based in Kiel, Germany, that promotes early multilingualism in Kindertageseinrichtungen (day-care centres) and schools. It was founded in Kiel in 2000 on the initiative of Prof. Henning Wode, following his pioneering work on the Sprachbad Immersion approach in a bilingual AWO Kita in Altenholz in 1996. The association's members include researchers, early childhood and school teachers, parents, Kitas, schools and providers. Its work covers advice, professional development, exchange and information for parents, Kitas, schools, initiatives and education authorities, linking research and practice. It runs an annual professional day at the didacta education fair, maintains a map and database of bilingual Kitas and schools in Germany, publishes information flyers in several languages, and produces the QITA quality criteria handbook and toolkit for multilingual Kitas. The association is volunteer-run and funded by donations and membership fees.
