Ilemela, Tanzania
About
Founded in 1997, FONELISCO is a non-governmental organisation based in Ilemela, Tanzania working on children & youth, education, poverty & hunger.
FONELISCO (Foundation of New Life for Street Children and Orphans) is a non-governmental organisation founded in 1997 by social worker Joseph Mabinga Elias. It runs a children's home in Mwanza, Tanzania, providing street children and orphans with shelter, daily meals, education, health care and a caring environment. The children also grow much of their own food, and the organisation aims to raise them as self-sustaining, productive members of the community. FONELISCO is not affiliated with any religious or political movement, and it is funded through individual donations rather than government funding. It is developing a new site of about one hectare on Lake Victoria for a future orphanage.
