About

Founded in 1978, FR-Altenhilfe is a non-profit association based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany working on elderly care, poverty & hunger.

The FR-Altenhilfe is a non-profit association based in Frankfurt am Main, founded in 1978 from a Christmas aid campaign started by the Frankfurter Rundschau in 1949. It gives financial support to older people in need in the Rhine-Main area, including Christmas and Easter allowances and help with urgent costs such as glasses, hearing aids, appliances, heating bills and medication. Eligibility is checked against proof of basic income support or housing benefit, and the association maintains a register of around 1,000 beneficiaries. It also funds selected non-profit organisations that care for older people in the region and organises events such as trips, concerts and Christmas gatherings so that older people can take part in community life. Donations are collected mainly in the pre-Christmas period, largely from readers and long-standing supporters of the Frankfurter Rundschau. The association is recognised by the Frankfurt tax office as pursuing exclusively charitable purposes.
