Fundación Derecho y Defensa Animal (DYDA) is a Chilean non-profit foundation founded in 2014 that works to protect animals through animal law. Its work spans three areas: an academic area that conducts research and organises seminars and publishes the Revista Chilena de Derecho Animal; a legislative area that studies national and international animal law and promotes reforms, including through citizen participation mechanisms, meetings with parliamentarians and public hearings; and a legal area that handles strategic litigation and provides free legal advice on animal cruelty cases to individuals, organisations and public bodies. The foundation also gives classes on animal law to university students and to people convicted of animal abuse as part of their rehabilitation. It operates mainly in Chile, with campaigns on cage-free hens, octopus farming, live lobster sales and aquaculture welfare standards, and it is part of several regional and international animal welfare alliances.
