Groveland Emergency Food Shelf
Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States
About
Groveland Food Shelf is a community organisation based in Minneapolis, United States working on poverty & hunger.
Groveland Food Shelf is a non-profit food shelf in Minneapolis, Minnesota, that provides emergency food assistance to individuals and families in need in the Stevens Square area and the wider Minneapolis community. It operates a client choice model, letting guests select food and household items in quantities suited to their household size, and serves both housed and unhoused adults and families. The food shelf is hosted in the basement of Plymouth Congregational Church and relies on donations of food and money from individuals, churches, grocery stores, restaurants and bakeries. It also supplies food to the Minneapolis College food pantry, a community meal program run by downtown churches, and several small local non-profits, and it delivers food to partner organisations for home delivery during crises. Groveland was started in the 1970s by members of Plymouth Congregational Church and is governed with representatives of five supporting churches. Its services include food donation drop-offs, volunteering and monetary giving, which can be made tax deductibly.
