About

Founded in 1991, Historische Kommission für Thüringen is a non-profit association based in Jena, Germany working on heritage, science & research.

The Historische Kommission für Thüringen is a scientific society founded in 1991 in Erfurt, in the tradition of the earlier Thüringische Historische Kommission and the Verein für Thüringische Geschichte und Altertumskunde. Its statutory purpose is to research the history of Thuringia and its historically linked regions, to promote Thuringian regional history research by members and third parties, and to publish the results in source editions and scholarly works. It runs a series of academic events, including annual member assemblies and the Tag der Thüringischen Landesgeschichte, and publishes monograph series in cooperation with Böhlau and Vopelius. Its registered seat is Erfurt, and its administrative office is located at the Historisches Institut of the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena. The organisation is recognised as charitable under German tax law and is organised as an e.V.
