Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative (IWEI) is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation based in Kano, Nigeria, founded in 2009 as a family legacy foundation in honour of the late Ambassador Isa Wali. It works to advance gender justice by legally empowering women and girls so they can understand, claim and shape the rights and opportunities that affect their lives. Its programmes cover legal protection and access to justice, quality education, and livelihood and economic support, including bank account access, cooperative group formation, and community paralegal training. IWEI works with young women and girls across Nigeria, reaching rural and urban communities through community mobilizers, field officers and volunteers. It also engages youth in policy advocacy on the elimination of harmful practices, with support from UNICEF.
