It publishes fiction, poetry, nonfiction, graphic narratives and arts features, and aims to support new, emerging and established Australian writers and artists. Island also runs prizes such as the Gwen Harwood Poetry Prize and the Island Nonfiction Prize, as well as workshops, mentorships, events and a graphic narratives project. The magazine is distributed in print to subscribers and stockists across Australia and internationally, and it is a registered charity with Deductible Gift Recipient status.
