About
Founded in 1952, Kauai Humane Society is a charity based in Lihue, United States working on animal welfare, community development.
The Kauai Humane Society is a nonprofit animal shelter on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. It is the island's only open-intake shelter for cats and dogs and has served the island since 1952, relocating to its current Puhi location in 2000 after operating in Hanapepe for over 50 years. The organisation takes in all homeless animals regardless of age, breed, medical condition or behaviour, and works to find them homes through adoption, fostering and transfers to partner organisations on the mainland. Its services include affordable veterinary care at its Community Care Center, a Pet Food Bank that addresses pet food insecurity, quarterly mobile pet clinics, pet boarding, lost and found services, and rehoming guidance to help owners keep pets in their homes. The shelter states that it does not euthanise animals for time or space, and that it relies on donations and sponsorship from individuals and businesses to fund its programmes. Its stated mission is to foster respect, responsibility and compassion for animals and to nurture healthy relationships between pets and people.
