About

Founded in 1966, Kerry Mountain Rescue Team is a charity based in Killarney, Ireland working on humanitarian aid & disaster relief.

Kerry Mountain Rescue Team is a volunteer mountain rescue charity covering the south west of Ireland, including the Beara, Iveragh and Dingle peninsulas and fifteen of Ireland's twenty highest peaks. The team responds to 999 and Garda requests to rescue walkers, climbers and others in distress on mountains, in glens and in other remote terrain, working with the Irish Coast Guard helicopter services and neighbouring coast guard and mountain rescue units. Members are trained in casualty care, technical ropework, helicopter winching, search management and navigation. The team also publishes mountain safety guidance for hillwalkers, including route planning, navigation, winter conditions and advice on walking alone, and runs fundraising to cover its operating costs, which exceed 50,000 a year. Founded in 1966 after the deaths of two climbers, the team is registered as a charity.
