The Kinderschutzbund Landesverband Schleswig-Holstein is the state association of the German Child Protection Association, founded in 1961 and headquartered in Kiel. It works for the protection of children and young people and for better living conditions for children, young people and their families across Schleswig-Holstein. Its 28 local and district branches, with more than 3,000 members, run kindergartens, offene Ganztagsschulen, family centres, child protection centres and counselling services. It operates the Kinderhäuser BLAUER ELEFANT, the Kinder- und Jugendtelefon and Elterntelefon of the Nummer gegen Kummer, the independent Vertrauenshilfe complaints service for residential care, and trauma-pedagogy support for schools and kindergartens. It also advocates for children's rights, including their inclusion in the constitution, the reduction of child poverty and the prevention of violence against children. The association is politically and denominationally independent and is run by a volunteer board.
