Laafi Initiative für Entwicklung is a registered non-profit association based in Vienna, Austria, active since 1994. It co-finances rural small hospitals in southern Burkina Faso together with village communities, local partners and the Burkinabè Ministry of Health. Its projects include primary care units, maternity wards, pharmacies, wells, solar power and staff housing. The state provides staff and covers operating costs after construction. Laafi also supports a shelter for people with AIDS and provides training and medicine supplies. Laafi has no paid staff or office; all work is voluntary, and the association states that 100% of donations go to projects in Burkina Faso. Each project phase is financed separately, and the association inspects the work on site.
