About
Founded in 2020, Latinx KidLit Book Festival is a non-profit organisation based in New York, United States working on education, arts & culture.
The Latinx KidLit Book Festival is a free virtual festival that celebrates Latinx children's and young adult authors, illustrators and books. It offers pre-recorded and live panels, craft workshops, illustrator draw-offs and read-alouds for students, educators, librarians and book lovers everywhere, not only those who identify as Latinx. Created in 2020 by members of Las Musas in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted classrooms, libraries and in-person book events, the festival aims to foster a love of story and literacy, increase empathy and conversation among educators and students, and uplift Latinx kidlit creators. Sessions are designed to be streamed into classrooms and libraries, with recordings available for replay. Content is developed in collaboration with teachers and educators, including members of the NCTE Latinx Caucus. The festival is run largely by volunteers and funded through sponsors and donors. It operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organisation based in New York, NY, USA.
