About
Founded in 2005, Lodi Railroad Museum is a community organisation based in Lodi, United States working on heritage, education.
The Lodi Railroad Museum is a non-profit educational and historical organisation in Lodi, Ohio. Its mission is to inform and educate the public about the influence of railroads on the Village of Lodi and Harrisville Township. It began in 2005 as the Save the Depot committee, formed to save the former Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway depot from demolition. The group received the depot deed in December 2008 and is restoring it to its appearance in the late 1920s, with plans to turn it into a museum of local railroad history. The museum's scope covers the railroads serving Lodi, including the Wheeling & Lake Erie, Nickel Plate, Norfolk & Western, Norfolk Southern, Baltimore & Ohio, Chessie System and CSX, as well as the Cleveland & Southwestern electric interurban and Lodi's wider local history. The organisation owns ex-Norfolk & Western caboose 231, built in 1949 by the W&LE. It relies on members and volunteers, is a member of the Ohio Rail Tourism Association, and offers Operation Lifesaver rail safety presentations. The museum is open every fourth Sunday from April to October.
