About
Founded in 1995, Marienstüberl is a charity based in Graz, Austria working on poverty & hunger, community development.
The Marienstüberl in Graz is a meal and community centre run by Caritas Steiermark for people in poverty and need. It provides a warm midday meal, breakfast and snacks, food parcels and a food distribution service, along with showers, phone access, a place to warm up, and a listening ear. The centre is based at the Marianum social centre in Kleiststraße and serves visitors seven days a week. Food is rescued from supermarkets, wholesalers and donation drives and distributed to those in need, with volunteers supporting the kitchen and food distribution. The Marienstüberl was founded in 1995 by bringing together the City of Graz, Caritas, Graz parishes, volunteers and the Barmherzige Schwestern. It also hosts community cooking days for groups and runs a donor circle, the Freunde des Marienstüberls, to secure its long-term funding. Its roots go back to the warming rooms set up in Graz in 1881.
