About
Founded in 1707, Marsh's Library is a charity based in Dublin, Ireland working on heritage, education, science & research.
Marsh's Library is a registered charitable trust and Dublin's oldest public library, founded in 1707 by Archbishop Narcissus Marsh and incorporated by an Act of the Irish Parliament. Located beside St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, it holds a collection of around 20,000 early modern Irish, British and continental European books and pamphlets, along with manuscripts. The Library is open to visitors through self-guided and guided tours, offers school and group visits, and provides reading and research access for scholars. It also runs a conservation bindery, funds research fellowships, produces educational resources for teachers, and is governed by a board of trustees known as the Governors and Guardians. Its stated aims are to preserve its collections, care for its historic building, and serve as a cultural and intellectual hub for visitors, students and scholars.
