About
Founded in 2018, Mexico Marine Wildlife Rescue Center is a non-governmental organisation based in La Paz, Mexico working on nature & wildlife conservation, animal welfare, environment & climate.
Mexico Marine Wildlife Rescue Center (MMWRC) is a volunteer-led, independent non-profit organisation that rescues, rehabilitates and releases marine wildlife in distress across Mexico. Based in La Paz, Baja California Sur, it responds to marine mammal and sea turtle strandings, entanglements, vessel strike injuries and poaching cases, and runs a stranding reporting system and rescue hotline. Its work covers the Pacific coast and the Gulf of California, with support from a wider national and international network. The organisation works under permission from Mexican government authorities, including PROFEPA, CONANP and SEMARNAT. It also runs public education on stranding response and promotes data sharing with scientists. MMWRC states it began in 2018, building on the Vaquita CPR project. Its rehabilitation facility is private and not open to the public.
