About
Founded in 1985, Mountain People is a non-governmental organisation based in Norway working on community development, education, health +4 more.
Mountain People is a non-profit NGO, registered in Norway and in Nepal, founded in 1985 by Welshman David Durkan with the building of a small school at Syangma-Thati in the Solu Khumbu region. It works to help mountain communities in Nepal develop their own solutions through grassroots projects, with a focus on schools, health, water, girls' education and emergency relief. Projects are typically joint efforts in which local communities contribute labour, land or materials alongside Mountain People funding. Over 500 grassroots projects had been initiated and completed by 2018. Administrative costs are covered by Bergans of Norway, so donations go to projects. The organisation is run by voluntary boards in Norway and Nepal.
