The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent humanitarian organisation that helps people forced to flee. It works in crises across many countries, providing emergency relief and protection, shelter and settlement support, water, sanitation and hygiene services, education, livelihoods and food security, and legal assistance for displaced people, returnees and host communities. Its expert deployment arm, NORCAP, supplies personnel and expertise to humanitarian, development and peace-building partners worldwide. NRC also publishes an annual report on the world's most neglected displacement crises and advocates for displaced people and for sustained international aid. The organisation is based in Oslo, Norway, and has been working in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since 2001 and in Colombia since 2005. It reports that more than 90 per cent of its global costs go to crisis-affected countries.
