The Ökumenische Initiative Eine Welt e.V. (ÖIEW) is a non-profit association founded in the 1970s to promote a sustainable, solidarity-based lifestyle. Since 2001 it has served as the German coordinating body of the international Earth Charta movement. Its work centres on holistic education for children, youth and adults, using global learning and education for sustainable development. It trains Earth Charta ambassadors, runs workshops, publishes the initiativ magazine and educational materials, and organises campaigns and public events. Its activities are carried out largely by volunteers, with a small paid team based in Diemelstadt-Wethen, Hesse, and regional groups across Germany.
