The Österreichische Blasmusikverband (ÖBV) is an independent, non-party-political and non-profit umbrella association for brass band music in Austria. It is the federation of the nine Austrian state associations plus partner associations from South Tyrol and Liechtenstein, and counts 2,180 member bands. Its statutory aims are to support, promote and develop wind band music, to preserve traditional Austrian band culture and literature, and to promote contemporary symphonic band music and composers. The ÖBV runs musical competitions, training courses, a documentation centre and museum in Oberwölz, and publishes the online journal Blasmusikforschung. It works closely with the Österreichische Blasmusikjugend, which serves young musicians up to age 30. The klang and playing tradition of Austrian band music was added to the national list of intangible cultural heritage. The association is run by volunteers and is headquartered in Spittal an der Drau.
