About
Founded in 1996, Palm Tree Care Centre is a non-governmental organisation based in Amanzimtoti, South Africa working on children & youth, education, community development.
Palm Tree Care Centre is a small-scale children's care home in Amanzimtoti, on the east coast of South Africa, about 40 km south of Durban. It was started in 1996 as a crèche serving the local community and grew into a family home for around 20 children and young people, aged 1 to 25, many of them adopted or under guardianship of the founder. The centre provides housing, education support including school fees and home-schooling through the GED programme, and healthcare for children and destitute mothers with young children. It also runs a gymnastics academy to generate income, and supports the neighbouring KwaMakutha township. The Dutch support foundation, Stichting Vrienden van Palm Tree, raises funds in the Netherlands and holds ANBI status.
